Many people confuse the technology of Flash with what is truly dynamic. Flash is one of the most exciting technologies on the web, but it is only dynamic when coupled with a database of some kind. Static (boring) websites have no database. All information on a static web site is contained on the files that are located on the root folder of the web site. This works well for smaller sites, but larger sites are impossible to manage this way because information is cumbersome to change. First of all, every time the web site needs updating a web designer must to be hired. That makes changing the content expensive and inefficient. All dynamic web sites include a database. A dynamic website is able to provide real-time information and interaction. For example, when a person is searching through ebay, the experience is specific to him/her. Also, dynamic web sites give the web site owner the ability to create content, upload photos, and manage users though programs called Content Management Systems communication with a database. Open source or free software, such as Joomla, allow a website to grow organically with the needs of any business. It is amazing that we are at a point in history that, through the power of dynamic websites and the CMS, the smaller business is able to compete with large organization. With a dynamic web site, it is easier to have an online store, run a forum, or send out company newsletters over the internet. |
